INSTALLATION - FEATURED INSTALLATIONS - HFX GOES GLOBAL
Featured install – Portugal – HFX goes global
One of our South African clients recently commissioned us to overhaul his library in his home in Portugal – this is HFX Systems first European Installation. His home in South Africa features Marantz and Bowers & Wilkins 800 Series products installed by HFX Systems, and he wanted the same combination and level of installation in Portugal.
Kobus had extensive meetings with the client, to ensure all details were taken care of beforehand – this included a pre-site inspection in Portugal to make sure everything was 100% prepared for the install teams arrival. We certainly could not afford to forget anything 8000km away at the office!
System design and planning at
the pre-site inspection.
The room as we received
it – a library.
We shipped an electric tab tensioned screen from South Africa, as well as cabling and all other items we would need for the installation – as we said before –detailed planning was the only way to make this project a success. We made a wooden ‘crate’ to make sure the equipment would not be damaged en route.
The weather when we arrived –
perfect for a quick swim in the sea.
Unpacking the electric screen – all in tact –
the crate (and most importantly,
the contents) survived the 8000+ km
shipping.
Cutting holes for the in-ceiling
speakers for the surround channels.
Cutting holes for the down
lights that are used when
the screen is up.

Connecting the RTI control system. The RTI remote control allows the client to automate features of the home theatre – such as automatically dropping the screen, turning on the projector, turning on the processor, amplifiers and source at the touch of a button on the remote control. Other features are also possible including opening and closing curtains/blinds and changing lighting scenes.
Placement of the B&W ASW825 subwoofer – neat and inconspicuous
We calibrated the geometry, black levels, gray scale levels, colour, white balance, contrast and brightness of the projector. The picture quality is always improved with time being spent calibrating the projector with the right tools.
The room as we left it. Bowers and Wilkins 804S, HTM3S and ASW825 subwoofer with CWM650’s used as rear and surround speakers. Marantz’ AV8003 and MM8003 provided processing and power to the system, while the Marantz BD7003 Blu-ray player provided a great picture for Blu-ray discs and DVDs.

In the lounge, we supplied and installed a Samsung LED screen with the audio provided by a B&W Zeppelin. The Zeppelin allows the client to dock their iPod and listen to their favourite songs, as well as play audio from an external source (such as TV or DVD).
After all the work is done, there is some well earned rest time with Philipe (a local engineer overseeing the electrical integrity of the installation), and of course some well earned local beers – cheers!
