Completed project – Meyerdal Eco Estate
The project brief was that the entertainment system and equipment must work around the décor, integrating seamlessly with the spacious rooms and design aesthetics. click on the images to see a larger view
In the lounge and main TV viewing area, large windows and the feeling of space created a challenge to find space for the front 3 loudspeakers in the AV system. HFX custom built a metal housing for the 50” plasma screen and three in-wall B&W loudspeakers above the fireplace (1 x CWM Cinema for centre channel and 2 x CWM 650 for L + R). This configuration allowed good quality audio for the front 3 speakers, without obstructing any of the magnificent views. One of the problems we had to overcome was the chimney duct from the fireplace, as it needed to be rerouted because of the audio visual system on the wall, but without compromising the extraction efficiency of the chimney. The equipment rack was built with pocket doors and is fitted into an available cavity in one of the pillars. Equipment used was a Marantz SR6003, DV4003, HD-PVR and an Opus 300 Series 2-zone distributed audio system.
| As much as placing the front speakers was a challenge, the same challenge applied to finding a place for the rear speakers. Fortunately, we were involved in this project right from the beginning, so placing the rear speakers was a breeze. We made sure conduits and wall boxes in the support pillars were in place, so the rear speakers, B&W CWM6260’s, integrated seamlessly into the environment, and were in the correct position for the full surround sound experience | .
| The patio area uses 2 pairs of B&W CCM618 in-ceiling speakers for music listening. Due to the complexity of the slab, we had to use trim rings to effect a proper installation. This is one of the multiroom ‘zones’, so all the sources in the lounge (DVD, CD and tuner) are available on the patio at independent volume levels with direct control. |

In the bedroom, we recessed a Philips LCD screen into the wall. Again, because we were involved early on in the project, effects like this can easily be created with a little bit of creativity. |
|
The magnificent views from the bedroom do not allow conventional loudspeakers to be used - so the audio is delivered by in-wall B&W CWM6260’s mounted above the window. |
The study also has access to all the audio sources, being the 2nd zone of the distributed multiroom audio system. Tuner, CD, DVD, DSTV is all available and controlled via the Opus 300 Series keypad with B&W CCM616’s in the ceiling. |
